Trying to get healthy doesn’t have to be difficult or complex. Eating healthy and exercising are basic things you can do to avoid large medical bills down the road. 1. Warm Up Before You Workout
Warming up is an underrated part of working out. Your chance of injury is significantly reduced when you take the time to warm up. Doing some stretches and light cardio increases blood flow, your metabolism and your ability to take in more oxygen. All of these are essential factors for a great workout. Warming up also makes it easier for you to mentally engage in the workout instead of trying to go all out from the start.
2. Make Healthy Eating Easy On Yourself
Eating healthy doesn’t have to be hard or depressing. Start by being honest about your current eating habits. Look for sources of sugar, fats, and carbs in your diet and take steps to eliminate them. Keep a food journal, so it’s easy to assess what you’re eating. After tracking your eating habits for a week, you can decide which foods to stop buying and which foods you need have around the house more.
3. Avoid Diets
No one goes into a diet thinking they’re going to stay on it for the rest of their life. This is why diets just don’t work. Living healthy is about creating a healthy lifestyle for yourself. You don’t need to restrict what you eat when you’re eating home cooked meals from whole foods. There are no pills or diet programs that are going to work better than eating more vegetables, less sugar and committing to exercising.
4. Seek Regular Medical Care
Don’t wait until you fall ill to seek medical care. You should see your dentist and doctor at least once a year. Visiting your dentist regularly can help you spot problems early before they develop into expensive issues. Seeing the doctor while you’re healthy can be tedious since you want to do other things, but you have a responsibility to manage your health.
5. Develop Healthy Cooking Habits
If you fry a lot of food or eat a lot of fat, you’ll have to make some slight changes to how you prepare your food. Instead of frying meat in oil, you can bake, grill or broil it. Broiling is an excellent way to get a crisp finish on your meat. Try not to add salt, sour cream or other condiments with fat and calories to your meal. It’s also a good idea to try getting your salad dressing on the side, which will allow you to control how much you’re eating.
6. Drink More Water
Simply drinking more water can have a positive effect on your life. It’s hard to feel full when you’re slightly dehydrated which causes people to eat more than they need. Try using your phone to remind you to drink water throughout the day. You can also eat oranges, grapes, and watermelon to increase your water intake.
7. If You Sit Lots, Try To Work Standing
Eyes strain, tension neck syndrome, headaches, and many other problems are caused by staring a computer screen all day. Sitting interferes with circulation and causes your muscles to tense up. If you use the phone a lot, trying using a shoulder cradle, headset or speakerphone to protect your neck. Standing up and stretching will help you combat the negative health effects of sitting.
